It was a sunny day during the summer before 6th grade when my attempts to get my mom to take me to buy makeup won her over. We walked into the makeup aisle and she skillfully directed me towards some covergirl and maybelline products. I walked out with a new mascara, lipstick and eyeshadow and lots of excitement. I've been using those brands, along with many other, found along the way for years now.
Until , three weeks ago when I found out that they aren't cruelty free.
After the initial shock came disappointment, I had JUST bought l'oreal's new nude palettes. My two favorite drugstore lipsticks were also produced by non-cruelty free companies. But I breathed a sigh of relief when I realized that none of the companies inside Sephora would do this, right?
Wrong.
Brands like Smashbox, Bobbi Brown and Stila participate in this horrendous activity as well. Most of the makeup I've bought and used over the last few years is produced with animal testing, drugstore or not.
But there is one upside. I found out which brands are cruelty free. I know exactly which brands I should support. I've narrowed my wishlist by more than half and realize how little cruelty free makeup I have. And you know what that means.............
I ACTUALLY HAVE AN EXCUSE TO BUY MAKEUP.
So I decided to post my ~journey~ on this blog.
Enjoy.
